Program Overview: Psychiatric Emergency Screening Services is a 24/7 crisis intervention service that offers face-to-face crisis and emergency intervention to individuals who are suicidal, homicidal, or acutely psychotic.

Job Function: The Psychiatric Emergency Screener (PES) conducts mental health evaluations and assessments to determine the need for hospitalization, either voluntary or involuntary.

To qualify for this job you need to have the below minimum requirements and experience:

  • Master's degree in the mental-health-related field from an accredited institution, plus one year of postmaster's, full-time equivalent, professional experience in a psychiatric setting;
  • Bachelor's degree in the mental-health-related field from an accredited institution, plus three years post-bachelors, full-time equivalent, professional experience in the mental health field, one of which is in a crisis setting;
  • Bachelor's degree in the mental-health-related field, one of which is in a crisis setting and currently enrolled in a master's program.
  • Must have and maintain a valid driver's license, use of an insured vehicle and an acceptable driving record

  • Must regularly be able to see, speak and hear. Frequently required to stand, sit, walk, bend, use hands and arms and must occasionally lift up to 20 pounds.
  • Must be sensitive, flexible and responsive to gender, race, ethnicity, socio-economic status, religion, age, sexual orientation or any other diverse needs as reflected in the ability to communicate with staff and/or clients.
  • Demonstrate ability in working with a variety of internal and external departments
  • Knowledge of data reporting and use of an electronic health record.
  • Demonstrate advanced communication, analytical, and organizational skills.
  • Demonstrate strong project management skills
